This session will give you an overview of the VA Character of Discharge Review, the VA’s Pension Program, and the alternatives veterans and advocates do NOT know about - military discharge upgrade overview, and the essential basics of VA’s non-service connected pension benefits. A veterans discharge status impacts benefit eligibility and can help fight a veteran’s poverty and homelessness. Advocates will gain knowledge of when and how to seek a discharge upgrade, which board to request a discharge upgrade from, the characterization of a discharge, in addition to the VA Pension and Death Pension for Survivors.
